ADT4Blue at the BlueMissionAA Weekly Hour

Unmanned Systems & Digital Innovation in the Blue Economy

1 October 2025

The ADT4Blue project was proud to take part in the BlueMissionAA Atlantic & Arctic Lighthouse Weekly Hour, a webinar dedicated to exploring how unmanned systems, digital innovation, and advanced technologies are driving sustainability and efficiency in the Blue Economy.

Organised by the F6S Innovation Blue Economy Synergy and hosted by BlueMissionAA, the session brought together six pioneering EU-funded projects — I-SEAMORE, REMEDIES, iMermaid, EFFECTIVE, AUTOASSESS, and ADT4Blue — to share how digital tools and data-driven solutions are transforming ocean management and marine conservation.

A Collaborative Approach to Ocean Innovation

The webinar, titled “Unmanned Systems & Digital Innovation: Enabling Advanced Monitoring and Sustainable Solutions in the Blue Economy”, featured presentations on how cutting-edge technology is helping to build a smarter and more resilient maritime future.

Participants discovered how:
✅ Unmanned systems from I-SEAMORE and REMEDIES are enhancing surveillance and environmental monitoring;
✅ Digital innovation by iMermaid is helping prevent chemical pollution;
✅ AI and IoT integration through ADT4Blue accelerates Blue Economy digitisation;
✅ Digital twins developed by EFFECTIVE support sustainable management of blue parks;
✅ AI-powered robotics from AUTOASSESS enable safer vessel inspections.

ADT4Blue’s Contribution

Representing ADT4Blue, Pedro Fonseca, PhD, from Politécnico da Guarda, presented how the project is boosting the digital transformation of the Blue Economy through the integration of advanced digital technologies such as AI, Blockchain, Big Data, and IoT.

He underlined how ADT4Blue’s open calls, training, and mentoring programmes empower entrepreneurs and SMEs to develop innovative, sustainable solutions tailored to Blue Economy challenges.

Key Takeaways

The discussion highlighted major advances in:

  • Maritime Security: integrated surveillance and robotics for safer vessel inspection;
  • Environmental Protection: digital twin technologies for marine park management and unmanned systems for pollution control;
  • Cross-sector Collaboration: linking innovation ecosystems across Europe to promote sustainable ocean and water management.
